What it costs to run
- Charging: about 12¢ per full charge for a typical 706 Wh battery at the US average of 17¢ per kWh. Under a cent a mile.
- Battery replacement: $400 to $900 for most brands, usually after 500 to 1,000 full charges. It's the one running cost that matters, and the reason a brand with US support is worth paying for.
- Tyres and brake pads: like a bicycle's, but they wear faster with the extra weight and speed. Budget for pads every year if you ride daily.
