Florida e-bike and e-trike laws
Yes. Florida's law says an e-bike can be a "bicycle or tricycle," so an e-trike under 750 watts counts as an e-bike. You need no license, registration or insurance, and you can ride wherever regular bikes go, including bike lanes and multi-use paths. Helmets are only required under 16, but your city or county may add age limits or path restrictions.
- License
- No driver license needed for any e-bike class.
- Registration
- No registration, title, plate or insurance is required.
- Insurance
- No insurance (financial responsibility) requirement.
- Helmet
- Riders and passengers under 16 must wear a bicycle helmet; no state helmet rule for 16+.
- Minimum age
- No statewide minimum age, but since July 1, 2025 cities/counties may set minimum ages and require riders to carry government photo ID.
- Where you can ride
- You may ride anywhere a regular bicycle is allowed, including streets, shoulders, bike lanes and multi-use paths.
- Sidewalks
- State law does not ban sidewalk riding; on sidewalks you have pedestrian duties, must yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal before passing (local rules may differ).
Does an e-trike count as an e-bike?
“Electric bicycle" means a bicycle or tricycle equipped with fully operable pedals, a seat or saddle for the use of the rider, and an electric motor of less than 750 watts”Fla. Stat. § 316.003(23) ↗

How the trikes we list are treated in Florida
77 of the 191 trikes we list fit Florida's e-bike rules on their published figures. 80 need checking before you buy, and 34 don't publish enough to tell. We check motor power, top speed and the stated class. Not legal advice.
